COMPARISON
On May 25, 1984, the so-called "Virgin"
commanded that her 2000th anniversary be celebrated
on August 5th. Bishop Zanic forbid the request. The
"Virgin" then demanded that the feast of her
birthday be celebrated on the 5th of August instead
of the 8th of September. What about the Feast of the
Immaculate Conception? Will that have to be changed
also?
God will not contradict Himself. Nor will a true seer
contradict another true seer. Since Catherine Emmerich,
Therese Neumann, Mary Agreda, and the Church have said
that Mary was born on September 8th, what are we to
make of this woman of Medjugorje?
In fact, Mirna of Damascus received four different
apparitions on the eve of September 8th. One in that
same year, 1984. On the following eve of September 8th,
1985, Christ said, "I am the creator. I created
Her to give Me life..."
Interesting indeed that, if
true, Mary would request a change to her birthdate.
I have no comment on this one, except to point out that
it has been claimed that the Bible also contradicts
itself in many place and we must recognize that truth
is complex. We were most likely told early in our schooling
that water conducts electricity. ‘That’s
why,’ declares the teacher, ‘you should
be careful about water on laundry floors.’ Years
later one discovers that water does not conduct electricity,
it is only the impurities in water that allow conduction.
Still later as one delves deeper into the truth, we
discover that water does conduct electricity, it is
just that it does not conduct it very much. Truth is
indeed complex, and in the Bible God has entrusted us
with spiritual truth in all its complexity.
We have in our possession a written statement by the
Franciscan priest of Medjugorje, Father Slavko Barbaric,
and signed by his translator, John T. Shindler. It contains
many questions to be presented to the Gospa through
the visionaries.
These are some of the questions and the answers by
the Gospa (Virgin?):
Question 2. When does a baby receive a living soul?
Answer by Gospa: "Four and one half months."
Question 4. What about UFO’s? Are they true?
Answer by Gospa “Yes.”
Question 7. Where Adolf Hitler, Marshal Tito, and Pope
Paul VI replaced by evil doubles during their lifetimes?
Answer by Gospa: “Yes. They were good men replaced
by evil red doubles.
Question 8. Did you appear at Necedah, Wisconsin?
Answer by Gospa: “Yes. But no one listened, not
the bad bishops of U.S.
The answer to Question 2 would legalize almost all
abortions;
If Rick really has such an authentic document, why does he not scan it and put it online. We can find no corroboration for any of these statements. And these have never been brought up by Bishop Peric that I am aware of. Surely, he of all people would jump on these statements and the Vatican would most likely listen. Indeed if the Church had found anything contrary to Catholic teaching it would have put a stop to Medjugorje a long time ago. On the contrary, after 25 years, the Church has no objection to people travelling to Medjugorje on pilgrimage.
Rick talks a lot about "having in his possession" certain reports. Unfortunately, what Rick calls
"reports" are little more than litanies of
selective, slanted half-truths, which cannot be relied
on. I mean Rick stated elsewhere in his article that
Father Philip Pavich should be listened to as an accurate
word on the Church's view on Medjugorje. From all accounts, Philip Pavich was known as "Grumpy" by his peers. He wrote a detraction circular on the Poem of the Man-God
and was disillusioned by Medjugorje, renouncing it and casting aspersions on his Franciscan peers there. But Rick tries to pass him off
as a impartial voice of the Church. To get the real
voice of the Church on Medjugorje, Rick doesn't point
to crystal clear statements directly from the Vatican.
No, he tries to get everyone to listen to a disillusioned
priest with a chip on his shoulder (about what I don't
know). In the same way, his articles try to pass off
directives and judgements of Bishops Zanic and Peric
against Medjugorje as carrying weight and, indeed, as
being representative of Church judgement, without telling
everybody what the Vatican really thinks about the judgements
of these Bishops of Mostar. Please

the Bishops' opinions and what amounts to the clearest
statement to date on the Medjugorje phenomenon.
THE MOVIE “GOSPA”
Regarding the movie, “Gospa”, it is better
that we say nothing besides what the new bishop of Medjugorje
has already said in his published and sealed letter
sent all over the world to all who would promote or
even see the movie.
“Falsehoods on film
“The Chancery office of the Diocese of Mostar
in Bosnia and Herzegovina feels it necessary to make
the following statement regarding the film “Gospa”
(our Lady) which has been showing throughout the world
from April of this year. While leaving the artistic
evaluation of the film to competent film critics, we
shall focus our attention on its religious and ecclesiastical
content.
“1) An abuse of a holy name. From the religious
title of the film “Gospa”, a believer would
expect a lot more religious content in the film: Marian
and Mariological studies, or messages of the Blessed
Virgin Mary, the Mother of Christ. Yet, in the film,
despite its title “Gospa”, there is little
said on Mary, the Mother of God. This most holy name
of the most blessed amongst women seems to have been
used towards promoting worldly personal or group interests
and ideas. The honor of the Immaculate Mother of God,
full of grace, does not allow her name to be used as
a commercial or to promote propaganda.
“2) A false presentation of the Bishop. The
Chancery office of the Diocese of Mostar, resolutely
rejects as untrue all the scenes and words regarding
the ecclesiastical behavior of Msgr. Pavao Zanic, the
former diocesan Bishop (under the name of Peter Subic
in the film) with respect to the events of Medjugorje.
One cannot claim ‘freedom of artistic expression’
of the director or scenarios, by presenting falsehoods
on the head Church official without any basis in reality.
Bishop Zanic made an official statement in mid-August
1981 on the phenomenon regarding Medjugorje (Glas Koncila,
16/1981, 1). Not even a shadow of cowardliness or easing
off of the bishop before the communist authorities were
ever in question, let alone any type of collaboration
with them, as con be concluded by watching the film.
Instead, the bishop always behaved in a courageous and
dignified way. This can be seen from the Bishop’s
letter of protest to the President of the then State
Presidency, Sergej Kreigher, of 1 September 1981, in
which the Bishop with indignation condemned all the
meaningless slanderous attacks against some Franciscans,
including Fra Jozo Zovko, and himself. The Bishop wrote:
‘As Catholic bishop and head of the Diocese of
Mostar, I condemn all these irresponsible slanderous
attacks against myself and my priests mentioned, which
in no way contribute to a sober evaluation of the events
in the parish of Medjugorje. These offensive measures
discriminate against our civil and human rights. I ask
that you heed this protest of mine and that you as the
most responsible person in SFRJ (the former Socialist
Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) take the most urgent
action necessary against such irresponsible blunders.’
(Crkva na Kamenu, 9-10/1981, 1) To present Bishop Zanic
as a collaborator with the communists and as a weakling
in conversation with a Franciscan while talking about
Medjugorje, contradicts all the Bishop’s public
sermons and statements which are will known regarding
these events, especially regarding the mentioned Franciscan
priest. As a living witness, Bishop Zanic can also still
testify to the truth to everyone!
“3) It is truly regrettable that the film titled
“Gospa” presents as its protagonist and
symbol of the hundreds of Catholic priests who were
tortured and martyred in Croatia and Bosnia-Hercegovina
in the past, a single living religious priest who was
just born when others were dying for their faith and
fatherland and who has for years now been in irregular
standing with his Church! A film which abused the name
of our Lady, which does not shy away from an incorrect
and insulting presentation of the local Bishop …
“
Unfortunately, because of the
Vatican's removal of the Bishop's right to pronounce
on the authenticity of Medjugorje, not many people feel
obliged to put much credence in what he says. This pretty
much renders anything said about this movie useless
to Rick's case.
SUMMARY TO DATE
I think the real evil is in the
smearing campaigns that have cropped since the beginning.
It started with the Bishop of Mostar, which made subsequent
detractors, especially atheists, feel justified in their
condemnations. To borrow from http://www.net-burst.net,
"The Deceiver always tries to pervert the most
beautiful, loving and holy acts of God into opportunities
to amplify his evil. He bent the miraculous provision
of manna into an occasion for the Israelites to murmur
against their Lord. (Numbers 11.5-6) He twisted God's
infallible Word into a weapon of deception against the
holy Son of God. (Matthew 4:5-6) He used Jesus' power
over demons to blaspheme Him as the prince of demons.
(Matthew 12:24) He turned divine judgement into an opportunity
to curse God instead of repent. (Revelation 16:10-11)
Rather than list a hundred more examples, let's focus
on the point: if we failed to differentiate between
an act of God and the evil interpretation with which
Satan tries to tar it, we could end up labelling as
satanic virtually everything God has ever done."
